Allegations of Over 8 Hours of «Arbitrary and Unjustified Detention» Against Members of the Coordinating Group for the Repeal of the Naín-Retamal Law

Through a statement shared on social media, the Coordinating Group for the Repeal of the Naín-Retamal Law reported that several of its members faced «over 8 hours of arbitrary and unjustified detention» by Carabineros during the launch of the «Organized Against Repression» campaign in Santiago.

In this context, they explained, «14 women were taken from the front of La Moneda to the 1st Police Station for supposed investigative control, despite having presented their identification cards. This is a covert detention.»

The Coordinating Group provided updates on the events through their Instagram account, detailing that five individuals remained detained by Carabineros for more than 8 hours, with «almost all being relatives of victims of police violence; young residents killed by the State and its agents.»

«Carabineros requested the identification of 14 individuals present at the event, and even though everyone provided their documents, this was not sufficient. They were taken to the 1st Police Station to begin a procedure for alleged damages. Five women were detained for 8 hours, until the prosecutor ordered their release due to insufficient evidence to substantiate the reported incidents,» they stated in their declaration.

Additionally, they denounced «harassment towards the families of the victims of the Naín-Retamal Law,» noting that three of the five detained for 8 hours are relatives of Maximiliano and Camilo.
