Residents of Villarrica are expressing alarm over the possibility that prosecutor Jorge Calderara may terminate the case against Cristian Sepúlveda Muñoz, a well-known gynecologist under investigation for severe allegations of violence against his ex-partner, including attempted femicide and habitual abuse.

According to evidence presented in the investigation, the victim reported being attacked by the doctor on the night of May 23, 2025, in an urban area of Pucón, where he is alleged to have knocked her down and attempted to strangle her twice, making it difficult for her to breathe.

The woman managed to escape, and subsequent examinations revealed injuries to her neck.

The investigation includes photographs, medical documentation of injuries, and a self-denunciation by the doctor, in which he purportedly admitted to physically assaulting the victim.

Additionally, messages sent by the defendant to his ex-partner, where he explicitly acknowledges her as a victim and apologizes for the incident, are also part of the investigation context.

Simultaneously, a domestic violence case has been processed in the Family Court of Pucón, which, given the severity of the reported offenses, was referred to the Guarantee Court of the same city.

Moreover, a pending lawsuit for habitual abuse has been filed with the same court, documenting both physical and psychological violence against the victim.

«No Perseveration»

Currently, the accused is under a judicial restraining order prohibiting him from approaching or communicating with the victim, a measure that, according to the plaintiff, has been violated. He is also suspended from his duties at the Villarrica Hospital, although he continues to receive his full salary and conducts private practice.

Despite the seriousness of the reported incidents, the evidence gathered during the investigation, and the alarming context of violence against women highlighted by recent femicide cases in the region, prosecutor Jorge Calderara is considering discontinuing the case with a decision of non-perseveration.

If implemented, the investigation could conclude without the accused facing formal charges, and thus, without a judicial determination of any potential criminal responsibility.
