Corrientes Province in Argentina Loses Nearly 500 Private Companies in One Year, Twice the National Average

A report from the Argentine media outlet El Destape revealed that, according to a study by consulting firm Politikón Chaco, Corrientes province saw the closure of 489 employer businesses in the past 12 months, marking a decline that is double the national average.

The province «is among the most affected jurisdictions,» notes the newspaper, adding that, in total, «Argentina recorded 16,529 fewer employer businesses in June 2026 compared to the same month in 2025. Corrientes emerged as one of the hardest hit areas alongside Chaco, Misiones, and Formosa,» the publication highlights.

Additionally, it was reported that private employment in Corrientes fell to one of its lowest levels in recent years, with 75,600 wage-earning private workers recorded in May, which is a 5.5% decrease from May 2025.

«The decline indicates that the province lost approximately 4,400 private jobs within a year,» warns the report from El Destape.

Another concerning aspect for this Argentine province is the paralysis of public works, a situation that has characterized Javier Milei’s government throughout the country.

«In August, the provincial Chamber of Construction warned that the lack of investment from Javier Milei’s government has left a gap that cannot be filled by the private sector or by the provincial government’s demand,» the publication states.
