Senator Daniella Cicardini and Congressman Daniel Manouchehri, both from the Socialist Party, have held President José Antonio Kast and Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz accountable for the economic burden that their policies place on Chilean families just before the national holidays.

In a video shared on social media, the legislators warned that “this September 18 will be one of the most expensive in history,” referencing the rising fuel costs due to the so-called «bencinazo,» the increased cost of living, high unemployment, and a struggling economy.

“While the public scrambles to save money for this September 18, the government protects the super wealthy and distributes lucrative positions among the connected elite. President Kast, correct your course. Start by ousting Quiroz,” they stressed, along with the hashtag #RenunciaQuiroz.

The video intersperses footage of both lawmakers with newspaper clippings, unemployment statistics, and recordings of previous statements where Cicardini and Manouchehri demanded the resignation of Minister Quiroz. “And the most serious thing is that we warned you,” they affirmed.

Additionally, Cicardini and Manouchehri criticized the government for promoting tax benefits for large companies and higher-income sectors through the so-called Super Rich Law, despite rising fuel prices and an unemployment rate that reached 9.5% in the last quarter.

In this context, it is noteworthy that the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported a monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase of 0.6% in August and a 12-month rise of 4.1%; on September 10, fuel prices increased by $35 per liter and $89 for diesel, marking yet another rise in fuel prices this year.
