Fenaut Takes Action Against Former Advisor to PNL Deputy Over Disturbing Video
The dissemination of a video featuring sexual jokes about non-verbal autistic children prompted the National Autism Federation (Fenaut) to approach the Public Ministry, clearly stating that the resignation of the individual involved, Ítalo Omegna, a member of the National Libertarian Party (PNL), is ethically insufficient.
Public outrage erupted on social media after a video went viral showing the former legislative advisor to Deputy Hans Marowski (PNL) making mocking sexual comments about minors, including direct references to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The video, shared on digital platforms such as «Es Tendencia» and Piensa Prensa, reveals the moment when Omegna gives various gifts to another man while making a series of sexual «jokes in which he refers to «autistic children» as «the ones who do not speak,» triggering unanimous condemnation.
In light of the significant backlash, the Mises Institute Cono Sur, where Omegna served as Director of Connections, announced his immediate departure, asserting that the comments made in the video were «incompatible with the values, standards of conduct, and representation» expected of its members.
Amid the controversy, the National Libertarian Party and its leader, Deputy Hans Marowski, have maintained an «absolute silence», as reported by Piensa Prensa, only acknowledging the acceptance of Omegna’s resignation as an advisor.
Fenaut Files Complaint Because Resignation is Not Enough
Through a public statement, Fenaut expressed its outrage at the former advisor’s remarks, asserting that his resignation as a PNL deputy advisor is not sufficient and decided to submit evidence to the Public Ministry.
Members indicated that they are considering legal actions, emphasizing that the investigation and legal classification of the events are the exclusive responsibility of the authorities, while fully respecting the presumption of innocence and due process.
They noted that the video’s content transcends the private domain, as «the use of non-verbal autistic children» in a supposed joke context carries extreme seriousness.
«Following the recording we have denounced, where sexual comments are made regarding children and specific references to non-verbal autistic children, expressions we consider gravely inappropriate and that can contribute to trivializing violence and child sexual abuse by ALL involved in the video,» they stated in their text.
The federation argued that these minors face significant barriers in communicating situations of risk or reporting violations and characterized Omegna’s comments as «gravely inappropriate,» as they contribute to «trivializing violence and child sexual abuse,» directly affecting the dignity of a group already particularly vulnerable in society, which requires «reinforced protection and an unequivocal commitment from society» to their dignity and safety.
Fenaut’s outrage also directly targets the statement from Deputy Marowski, considering that reducing the issue to a resignation without issuing an explicit condemnation is «legally and ethically insufficient».
«While we recognize that this constitutes a significant administrative consequence, we believe it does not address the need to explicitly condemn the content of the remarks or reaffirm the duty to protect children and adolescents,» stated the group.
«Beyond the resignation of the former advisor, it is legally and ethically insufficient to maintain that this was merely a private activity unrelated to his functions,» they emphasized.
In the text, the federation insisted on the seriousness of narratives that trivialize child sexual abuse and expressed concern that the statement from the PNL parliamentarian «reduces the issue to a political consequence resolved through resignation,» omitting any explicit condemnation of the content of the expressions made.
«The discussion is not about an individual’s private life, but about the seriousness of narratives that relativize child sexual abuse and use autistic children as the object of a supposed joke,» they argued.
Therefore, they demanded that public responsibility not be exhausted in dismissing the implicated party, but requires a clear condemnation of any expression that normalizes or minimizes sexual violence against children.
Finally, the federation extended a call to respect the principles enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and national laws No. 21.430 and No. 21.545, which demand «preventing all forms of violence, exploitation, or violation of rights».
Additionally, they warned that the trivialization of pedophilia or strategies for child grooming directly contradict these regulations and help normalize behaviors that the legal system seeks to prevent and eradicate.
Consequently, Fenaut announced it will continue to take all relevant institutional and judicial actions, making it clear that the defense of the rights of autistic children «does not admit relativization or ambiguity».
