Humiliating Electoral Defeat for MAGA/Trump and the Far-Right Coalition

On Tuesday, November 3, U.S. voters delivered a staggering blow to Donald Trump: he lost both the Senate and the House of Representatives. The Axios portal compares this humiliation to the repudiation of 1974 after Watergate.

Texas elected James Talarico and Gina Hinojosa, while Kansas welcomed its first Democratic senator in 94 years. Ohio, Iowa, Maine, and both Carolinas also turned against Trump. He claimed that he was not on the ballot.

A notable development comes from the left. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) now includes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, along with five new representatives: Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Melat Kiros, Donavan McKinney, and Chris Rabb from New York, Colorado, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.

While these new representatives are few and won in solid districts, they previously defeated the cumbersome, conservative Democratic machinery: Kiros overthrew 15-term incumbent Diana DeGette, while Avila Chevalier ousted Adriano Espaillat. Zohran Mamdani paved the way for this change in New York a year ago.

This was not a blank check for the Democratic Party, which, according to Axios, remains highly unpopular. It was a rejection of the high cost of living, the conflict with Iran, the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), rampant racism, and the symbolic violence of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, driven by arrogance.

This struggle has seen casualties: Renée Good and Alex Pretti were shot by federal agents in Minneapolis in January. It was a leap towards dignity.

The tech moguls also experienced losses. Elon Musk spent $474 million and ended up joking about his space lasers. Hinojosa defeated Greg Abbott by highlighting the issues surrounding corporate data centers. Peter Thiel, co-founder of Palantir, invested $15 million in 2022 to get JD Vance into the Senate from Ohio, which has now fallen into Democratic hands under Jon Husted. In April, Thiel travelled to South America.

In Santiago, he met with José Piñera, the architect of private pensions under Augusto Pinochet, and spent nearly two hours with Johannes Kaiser, leader of the Libertarian National Party, in a meeting facilitated by his brother Axel Kaiser.

Thiel is said to be interested in mining, according to Kaiser: these data centers require copper and lithium, both of which are abundant in Chile. Those in these columns warned in May of «alarms that should not be ignored.» Today, the guarantor of that network has lost Congress.

Kast was also not on the ballot but faced a similar fate. On March 7, just four days before taking office, he attended a summit in Doral, Florida, where Trump launched the Shield of the Americas. This is what is known as subordination. Kast also welcomed Thiel at La Moneda, a meeting that the government only acknowledged in June.

He started with a 57% approval rating, according to the Cadem polling agency; by October 25, that had plunged to 29%, with a disapproval rate of 66%. He continues to support his Minister of Justice, Fernando Rabat, in the face of a constitutional accusation.

The defeat of Trump and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s victory over Flávio Bolsonaro on October 25 signifies a knockout for the submissive far-right agendas aligned with Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State who boasted in June of a Latin America «full» of allies.

At their core, they are weak: built on sand. Javier Milei, saved in 2025 with $20 billion, will face $25 billion in 2027. Washington, however, will not relinquish its «backyard.»

An atmosphere of fear lingers among MAGA ranks. Axios recalls that Democrats have the votes necessary to investigate Trump, his family, and his supporters; The Wall Street Journal reports that ministers and middle management are already seeking lawyers. For the MAGA movement, Vance also serves as judicial security.

And there are desperate, dangerous attempts to hold on. Trump threatened to resume major attacks on Iran post-election; a cited Axios official anticipates, «If he feels ashamed, he will do something bold.» He has two years left and a war on his hands.
