INE Reports: Half of Employed Individuals in Chile Earned Monthly Incomes of $680,000 or Less in 2025

This figure originates from the 2025 Income Supplementary Survey (ESI) published by the National Statistics Institute in July 2026, applied in the fourth quarter of the previous year to assess labor income for employed individuals at national and regional levels. Reports are now available online.

In 2025, the average monthly net income for employed individuals in Chile was $962,945 (after deductions for health and social security), while the median income, representing the earnings of the middle half of the population, stood at $680,000 per month. This indicates that 50% of the workforce earned less than or equal to this amount.

These figures are derived from the 2025 Income Supplementary Survey (ESI), published by the National Statistics Institute (INE) on July 14, 2026. The survey was conducted from October to December of the previous year to characterize labor income at both national and regional levels.

«By gender, the average and median incomes for men were $1,062,864 and $701,985, respectively, while for women, these figures were $832,566 and $600,253. This resulted in a gender gap of 21.7% in average income, disadvantaging women,» stated INE officials.

Additionally, the income bracket of $500,000 to $600,000 accounted for 15.6% of employed individuals, while those earning between $600,000 to $700,000 and $700,000 to $800,000 made up 10.3% and 7.7%, respectively.

«Furthermore, 29.4% of all employed individuals received incomes of $1,000,000 or more, and 4.3% received earnings of $3,000,000 or more,» emphasized the organization.

Occupational Category

By occupational category, those classified as employers had a monthly average income of $1,711,041, while public sector employees, private sector workers, and self-employed individuals earned $1,321,228, $1,019,104, and $534,267, respectively.

According to the 2025 ESI, individuals with secondary education represented the largest proportion of employed people (39.7%), with average and median monthly incomes of $666,194 and $598,442, respectively. Conversely, those with postgraduate education recorded the highest incomes, averaging $2,650,573 and a median of $2,120,927.

«In terms of occupational groups, directors, managers, and administrators made up 5.2% of the total employed, earning average and median incomes of $2,558,421 and $1,997,562, respectively. Meanwhile, the group of workers in services and commerce accounted for 21.4% of all employed, with average earnings of $583,046 and a median of $529,223,» the INE reported.

Regions

Regarding regional income data, the average earnings in Antofagasta, Metropolitana, and Magallanes were $1,196,754, $1,102,043, and $1,074,556, respectively, all exceeding the national average of $962,945. The median income for these regions was $830,350 in Antofagasta, $800,000 in Magallanes, and $740,312 in Metropolitana.
