Following the Prosecutor’s decision to discontinue the case, the 7th Court of Guarantee in Santiago has officially closed the investigation regarding the failed purchase of former President Salvador Allende’s house, concluding that no crimes were committed.

This controversy led to the resignation of the then Minister of Defense under President Boric, Maya Fernández (granddaughter of Salvador Allende), and the loss of her Senate seat by Isabel, the former president’s daughter.

The historic property, located at Guardia Vieja 392, was intended to be purchased by the Ministry of National Assets alongside former President Aylwin’s house as part of a project to turn both into museums for the nation. However, the initiative faced scrutiny as beneficiaries included both Minister Fernández and Senator Allende.

Upon learning of the judicial decision, former Minister of National Assets under President Boric, Marcela Sandoval — who also resigned amid this controversy — issued a statement describing the closure of the investigation as a positive event «not only for me, but also for public service.»

«Throughout the process, I was guided by the conviction to provide accurate information in all instances where I was consulted. I was always available to assist the Prosecutor’s Office, the Chamber of Deputies, and to respond clearly to the press. Staying silent was never an option,» wrote the former minister.

«When one deeply believes in the role of public service, as my experience in various prestigious institutions confirms, it is an ethical imperative to publicly assume and clarify what has occurred,» Sandoval stated.

The former official also expressed gratitude to «the law firm AML Women’s Defense for their commitment and vision in supporting me throughout this process. I also thank those who loyally provided information for the investigation and my close ones who never stopped believing in me and my work.»
