Kast Administration Spent Over $264 Million on Meats, Metal Pins, and Desk Flags, According to Fast Check

The administration of José Antonio Kast has spent more than $264 million on the purchase of meats, metal pins, and desk flags, confirmed the investigative outlet Fast Check CL.

After various posts circulated on social media in the days leading up to the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, the Fast Check team verified that the Presidency of the Republic issued five purchase orders for a variety of meats, along with metal pins featuring the Chilean flag and desk flags, totaling $264,448,600.

The cited outlet noted that various accounts on X posted images of purchase orders for 10,000 metal pins at a cost of 7 million pesos; acquisitions of pork, poultry, beef, and sausages distributed among three purchases valued at 153 million pesos, 63 million, and 38 million respectively; and an expenditure of 2 million pesos for desk flags.

Upon reviewing the Mercado Público platform, the Fast Check team identified the purchase orders that circulated on social media and confirmed that «they are real».

Firstly, they verified the authenticity of purchase order 776-636-AG26 for 10,000 metal pins of the Chilean flag totaling $7,080,500 from the company DAYM SpA, issued on August 27, 2026.

The second verified purchase order was 776-680-TD26, regarding the acquisition of 100 desk flags from supplier Mundo Banderas SpA for a sum of $2,368,100, dated September 8, 2026.

The third order, 776-554-SE26, issued to COMERCIAL SAN PABLO LIMITADA on September 2, 2026, included the purchase of processed and frozen sausages for $38,250,000, as well as pork and beef for $153,000,000, and poultry meat for a total of $63,750,000.

During the review of the Mercado Público platform, Fast Check also identified that the Presidency of the Republic issued another purchase order (776-525-SE26) in July 2026 for meats and derivatives to the same supplier amounting to $76,500,000 for meats and derivatives.

The investigative outlet stated that they attempted to contact the Presidency to learn the reasons for these purchases and whether they were related to the Fiestas Patrias celebrations, but received no response.
