Los Ríos: Two Active Carabineros and One Retired Officer Arrested for Involvement in Criminal Organization Stealing Timber and Livestock

Two active carabineros and one retired officer were arrested in the commune of La Unión, Los Ríos region, accused of being part of a criminal gang charged with various offenses, including timber theft, receiving stolen goods, cattle rustling, obstruction of justice, violation of secrecy, malicious use of public instruments, illegal slaughtering, and land usurpation.

This information was reported by various regional and national media outlets. Radio Biobío revealed that the investigation into this case began in 2025, led by the Prosecutor’s Office and PDI, following the usurpation of a forest area in the mentioned southern region of the country.

In this context, the PDI stated that one of the suspects «might have utilized private forest properties to carry out illegal logging and removal of timber, which was then sold to third parties as firewood.»

There are also suspicions of activities related to cattle rustling, illegal slaughtering, and the commercialization of illicit meat. In fact, the Biobío report notes that «during the operation, detectives managed to seize over 430 kilograms of beef that were in the process of illegal slaughter inside a shed of a house without a cold chain.»

The meat was subsequently confiscated by the Seremi de Salud of Los Ríos.
