Palestinian Community in Chile Condemns Desecration of Christ Image by Israeli Soldier: «A Systematic Violence, Not an Isolated Incident»

The organization deemed the act in Lebanon as a serious offense to faith and denounced that such incidents are part of a pattern of persecution and ethnic cleansing affecting Christian communities throughout the Holy Land: "Should not be presented as an exception, but as part of a systematic policy of aggression that has historically impacted Christian communities, their churches, and clergy in Gaza, Jerusalem, and southern Lebanon," they stated.

Palestinian Community in Chile Condemns Desecration of Christ Image by Israeli Soldier: «A Systematic Violence, Not an Isolated Incident»

In a public statement, the Palestinian Community in Chile expressed its strongest condemnation of the desecration of an image of Jesus Christ by an Israeli soldier in the Lebanese town of Debel, labeling it as «an act of hatred» that was recorded on video, with its authenticity acknowledged by Israeli authorities themselves.

For the organization, which represents over 500,000 Chileans of Palestinian descent, this incident signifies a grave offense to millions of Christians and is particularly painful for Chile, the nation hosting the largest community of Palestinian origin Christians worldwide.

In this regard, the Palestinian Community emphasized that this event «should not be viewed as an exception, but as part of a systematic policy of aggression that has historically affected Christian communities, their churches, and clergy, both in Gaza and Jerusalem, and southern Lebanon.»

«Structure of Impunity»

Following the release of the images, Maurice Khamis Massú, president of the Palestinian Community in Chile, cautioned that this act «is not an individual mistake, but a reflection of a structure of impunity.»

He stated, «The desecration of sacred symbols and the violence against Christians in the Holy Land are part of the same process of dispossession and ethnic cleansing that indiscriminately affects all Arab people.»

Finally, the Community urgently called on the Chilean government, churches, and civil society to firmly condemn this outrage without double standards, warning that «silence in the face of these abuses not only normalizes the offense against faith but also contributes to perpetuating an occupation regime that employs violence and expulsion as constant practices.»
