The actions of Javier Olivares are not an isolated incident but rather a conscious act that trivializes the pain of those who relentlessly seek truth and justice, stated the members of the Communist Party and Independents regarding the latest episode of violence involving the congressman against legislator Lorena Pizarro.

What transpired this time? According to Pizarro, on Tuesday, Olivares arrived at Congress wearing a military cape reminiscent of those used by Pinochet, and began shouting "long live my general" in front of her in the dining area of the Chamber.

"This guy parades around dressed as Pinochet, shouting "long live my general" in front of us while I am the daughter of a forcibly disappeared person, and was with María Candelaria, daughter of Sebastián Acevedo. I confronted him, and this "honorable" individual only insulted me," the congresswoman expressed in a post on her social media, sharing a photo of the confrontation with Olivares.

Subsequently, Olivares of the People’s Party posted the same photo on his social media, altered with speech balloons mocking legislator Lorena Pizarro.

The PC bench emphasized that "the offensive remarks made by Olivares towards Deputy Pizarro, whom he insulted as a ‘rotten’ in the National Congress and online, constitute an act of political violence and misogyny that cannot be normalized or downplayed."

"It is particularly grave that these attacks are directed at a parliamentarian whose life has been marked by the defense of human rights and the pursuit of truth and justice for the victims of the civil-military dictatorship," the Communist deputies added in a public statement.

According to the PC legislators, Javier Olivares "has once again crossed unacceptable boundaries in the democratic debate and the minimum respect that must exist in the Chamber."

"Additionally, the deliberate act of wearing a costume identical to that of dictator Augusto Pinochet symbolizes an open apology for the dictatorship, an offense to the democratic memory of the country, and a deep disrespect towards the thousands of victims of human rights violations, their families, and survivors," the statement continues.

"We will not tolerate veiled tributes to a dictatorship responsible for executions, forced disappearances, torture, and political persecution. Even less so when these actions come from an elected official who seeks to reintroduce hate speech and validate state terrorism," emphasized the PC bench.

In this light, they warned that the incident is "not a mere controversy or an isolated act. It is a conscious action that trivializes the suffering of those of us who continue to tirelessly seek the full truth and justice."

"As the Communist Party and Independents bench, we will demand all disciplinary measures against Deputy Olivares, who not only attacked the dignity of a parliamentarian but also violated historical memory. We will not accept that denialism or the glorification of the dictatorship become tolerable practices within the National Congress," concluded the statement.
