On Saturday, March 28, at the Casa de la Cultura in Pelarco, a gathering of Maulian female singers was held, organized by the municipality’s Gender Commission.

Featured performers included Mauricia Saavedra, Caro Carrera, and Laura Villalobos—three accomplished singers from the Maule region, recognized for their contributions to both local and national music scenes.

«We have followed their work and consider them important representatives of women’s voices in the region,» said Mónica Muñoz, a member of the Gender Commission.

This initiative aimed to wrap up Women’s Month with an event that brought together residents around both rural and urban song traditions.

«One of our commission’s goals is to create opportunities for personal development and connection among local women, as well as those who have moved here from other places, fostering their integration,» Muñoz emphasized.

«We feel that generally, women’s contributions to music are often overlooked in various municipal activities, where most platforms tend to favor male musical projects. We wanted to make a difference by inviting these three representative singers from Maule,» Muñoz added.

The Pelarco Gender Commission has been active since 2024 and consists of four women from the community. Its mission is to promote spaces for meeting, reflection, workshops, learning, and cultural activities aimed at addressing the diverse challenges faced by women in the area.

It’s important to note that this is the first time Pelarco’s Culture Department has organized such an event.
