Representative Tello Meets with Striking Workers at Elqui Clinic

Representative Carolina Tello (FA) engaged with the union leading the strike at Elqui Clinic. Over 500 workers have been protesting for four days outside the health facility, where doctors are not currently providing care.

As negotiations remain unresolved, the representative pledged to support the workers in reaching an agreement and will contact the Ministry of Labor to clarify the events and work towards a swift resolution.

«We know that today they need to improve their working conditions, and we will communicate with the relevant institutions as they have requested. We hope to receive prompt responses regarding their demands, which are very just for decent and safe work,» stated Tello, leader of the parliamentary Front Amplio group.

Giselle Núñez, the first director of the Intercompany Union at Elqui Clinic, stated, «We have been conversing with the company at the Ministry of Labor since yesterday morning. The strike will continue while we are in negotiations. The company is making some concessions, but unfortunately, it is insufficient. We met with the representative, and she will be attentive to our needs and support us during this time.»

Through social media, the mobilized workers are sharing their demands: recognition by specialty, complexity bonus, salary adjustments of 3% to 6% based on category, support for training, benefits for employees’ families, and clarification of job descriptions, among others.

«The clinic has been growing, increasing services, but the staff capacity has not kept pace, overloading functions and compromising the quality of care, coupled with a lack of incentives and work permits,» emphasized those from the Union.
