Santiago: CoArtRe Launches Inaugural LGBTIQ+ Diversity Theatre Festival
In the vibrant heart of Bellavista, CoArtRe is proud to present the first edition of the LGBTIQ+ Diversity Theatre Festival, a contemporary theatrical initiative that invites audiences to experience theatre as a form of engagement, reflection, and connection, celebrating its 25 years of artistic journey.
Every Friday and Saturday throughout January, Teatro Las Tablas (run by Roberto Nicolini) will serve as the gathering point for this uniquely curated program, showcasing three theatrical productions that offer a powerful, contemporary, and deeply human artistic perspective. These works engage with themes such as identity, memory, desire, politics, and dissent through various stage languages and a solid aesthetic vision.
“This festival is born from an artistic conviction. We aim to create a space where theatre can contemplate the present, explore new sensitivities, and stage stories and bodies that expand our view of the world. Rather than simply representing diversities, we want art to imagine, question, and celebrate them,” says Jacqueline Roumeau, executive director of CoArtRe, who recently received the Outstanding Woman Artist Award for 2025 as part of the Regional Awards from the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage.
As a highlight of this inaugural edition, the festival will award the CoArtRe 2026 Recognition for Contributions to the Performing Arts, honoring creators whose work has significantly impacted Chilean theatre. The honoree will be announced soon.
