Original article: Campillai enfrenta reportaje de T13 y descarta cualquier vínculo con exconductor investigado
Senator Fabiola Campillai (Ind) addressed the report aired by T13 and dismissed any connection with the former driver under investigation, clarifying that he is no longer working with her.
According to T13’s investigation, Gerard Cortés Guerrero, who was hired by Campillai as a substitute driver, is facing charges related to threats stemming from incidents that occurred on May 11, 2025, in the San Bernardo district.
However, in a statement shared on her social media, the legislator asserted that she was unaware of this situation at the time of the hiring.
«Regarding the report broadcast tonight by Canal 13, I want to make it clear that when I hired my replacement driver, I had no knowledge nor was there any indication in the certificate of any prior criminal record. Had I known, this hiring would have never taken place,» she stated.
«This person no longer works with me, he was a temporary replacement for the primary driver who was on leave,» she emphasized.
T13 aired the report while the Finance Commission was sending the mega tax reform project to the floor on Monday, proposed by the government of José Antonio Kast, and just hours before the Senate was set to vote on this controversial initiative. This process, as expected, will take place this Wednesday at 3:00 PM, where Senator Campillai is anticipated to participate by casting her vote.
In her statement, the senator claimed she was unaware of any connection between the former driver and one of the accused involved in the incident that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy on June 23 in San Bernardo.
«I have no knowledge of any relationship between the aforementioned individual and one of those arrested for the robbery and homicide of a 12-year-old boy that occurred a few weeks ago in San Bernardo, an incident I condemned immediately and will continue to condemn with all my might, and I hope justice acts so that all responsible parties are held accountable,» she expressed.
To conclude, Campillai emphasized that the investigation facing her former driver is a legal process underway and dismissed any involvement in those events.
«I clarify that the investigation against my replacement driver is a matter currently in process, where I have no relationship whatsoever beyond what I have already clarified in my statements during the report,» she stated.
«I will always act with the transparency that characterizes me, and for that reason, I believe it was necessary to clarify all these questions because it is the right and necessary thing to do,» she asserted.
