Former minister Mara Sedini broke her silence two months after leaving La Moneda with a shocking revelation that shakes the foundations of the government. The former spokesperson for José Antonio Kast’s administration alleged that she was ignored and pressured to alter her communication style, highlighting a lack of design within the Executive, where appointees with diverse profiles end up being neutralized by a power circle enforcing a uniform model.

In an interview with Fernando Solabarrieta on the program «Sin Filtros,» the Republican Party member revealed that the trigger for her resignation was a direct order to silence her, issued by one of the three most influential figures in Kast’s administration during the crisis known as the «Bencinazo».

According to her account, the message was blunt: “Tell this little girl to stop talking nonsense”. Sedini avoided confirming whether Alejandro Irarrázabal, chief of presidential advisors, was the person responsible, but left the interpretation open by stating that “everyone can draw their own conclusions.”

She emphasized that this pressure was not an isolated incident but part of a pattern that began with criticisms of her direct and passionate style, the very qualities that led to her appointment in the first place.

When discussing her performance as a state secretary, Sedini admitted that she felt “greatly limited to a style that was not mine.”

“I’ll give a very concrete example that reflects this situation. There was a moment when one of the three most powerful people in the government approached me and said, ‘this cannot happen to you, this cannot be.’ ‘How?’ I asked. And he replied, ‘this is the government of the boring, we dress boring, we talk boring, we respond boring‘,” she revealed, as reported by El Mostrador.

This demand led Sedini to question the logic of her own appointment: “ I looked at him and said ‘so why did they call me? What am I doing here?’” She was told: ‘Are you an actress? Then act’, indicating that there was no clear plan for her role, just an imposition from the hard core of the government.

“That’s when I realized we had a serious problem,” she emphasized.

Sedini accepted her own share of responsibility with self-criticism, stating: “I was not authentic in the position, and I let myself be constrained and pressured.”

In the interview, she acknowledged that, despite feeling absolutely prepared – being a journalist with a master’s in political communication and years of experience – she ended up accepting restrictions that blurred her management. “I was bound hand and foot in a role that was meant for me,” she confessed, admitting that trying to conform to a mold that wasn’t hers led her to make communication errors.

However, she highlighted that she “earned” the position through a process . I arrived there on my own merit,” she asserted.

She also admitted that she accepted limitations that ultimately proved detrimental to her performance. She accused that she was forced to act with restraint, not to respond to criticism right away, and to avoid direct confrontation, even though these traits had been characteristic during Kast’s presidential campaign.

“Everything I was and built with my ideas, my style, and my way seemed to be of no use to the government. At that moment, I realized we had a problem,” she questioned.

“I found myself limited to a style, to not respond, to not provoke, and that evidently leads you to make mistakes,” she concluded, reflecting a break that transcends the personal and reveals a fracture in Kast’s political project.
