Study Finds Over 60% of Citizens Believe Kast Has Failed to Deliver on Campaign Promises

The September edition of Brecha Pública UCEN–Qualiz revealed that more than 60% of citizens believe that José Antonio Kast has not fulfilled any or nearly all of the promises made during his electoral campaign.

The study, conducted between September 22 and 29, 2026, employed two parallel instruments featuring identical survey questions directed at the general public as well as those making political decisions in the country. The citizen data reflects a weighted sample, while those from the so-called Political Panel are unweighted and are interpreted as a qualified insight.

Accordingly, 60.8% of the citizenry indicated that, after more than six months in La Moneda, the far-right president has achieved «none or almost none» of his promises. This figure marks a 14.5 percentage point increase from the data recorded in August.

Additionally, 24.8% believe he has fulfilled some promises, 13% believe he has fulfilled most, and only 1% thinks he has fulfilled all or nearly all.

Conversely, 31.2% of the Political Panel believes Kast has fulfilled «none or almost none» of his promises, 37.5% stated that he has only fulfilled some, 28.1% think he has met most, and 3% believe he has fulfilled all or nearly all.

The data shows a marked and significant gap between the perceptions of the Political Panel and the general populace regarding President Kast’s performance. While 43.8% of the panel views his greatest achievement as related to «tax or legislative reforms,» only 15.0% of citizens agree with this assessment. In contrast, a majority of the public is critical, as 42.2% believe he has not met «any» of the evaluated issues, compared to just 21.9% of the political panel sharing this view.

In areas such as «reducing public spending,» «immigration control,» and «crime and public safety,» both perspectives converge at low percentages (between 9% and 17%), reflecting a modest evaluation. Ultimately, the public perception of null fulfillment in the realms of «economy, growth, and employment» by the president stands at 2.1%.

Citizen Disapproval of Kast Rises to 60.7%

According to the survey, citizen disapproval of José Antonio Kast surged from 50.5% in August to 60.7% in September, while his approval rating fell from 36.5% to 24.9%. Among political actors, the president received a 40.6% approval rating against 53.1% disapproval.

The Brecha Pública UCEN–Qualiz study was conducted with a sample of 623 men and women over the age of 18, residing in all 16 regions of the country, alongside a Political Panel made up of 35 active parliamentarians, former ministers/subsecretaries, party leaders, and political advisors or former advisors.
