Original article: Profesores del Liceo Manuel Barros Borgoño denunciaron «desmedido procedimiento policial» en el establecimiento
In a public statement released on Thursday, October 8, the Teachers’ Assembly of Manuel Barros Borgoño High School condemned and rejected what they termed the «excessive police action» carried out by special forces of Carabineros at the educational institution.
The incidents occurred following a series of disturbances recorded outside the school.
According to testimonies collected, the teachers stated, «the police incursion included raids in classrooms where students were under the protection of their teachers, destruction of glass, and forced entry into premises.»
Furthermore, they reported that «the actions and words directed at community members were perceived as threats, causing distress, fear, and insecurity.»
«In addition, there were restrictions that prevented teachers from leaving and detentions of students without clear justification or timely notifications to their guardians,» the educators’ assembly added.
In light of these events, the education professionals demanded that the school administration and SLEP Santiago Centro clarify what happened, identify those responsible for the operation, and determine the relevant institutional and police accountability.
As of the time of this report, seven students from the school remained in custody at the 48th Carabineros Police Station, where officials from the Child Defense Office arrived.
In addition, two adults were detained at the 4th Police Station: an 18-year-old student from the school and a guardian who suffered a hand fracture and various injuries.
