Tencent Launches Hy4, Its New Flagship AI Model to Compete with Advanced Open-Weight Models

On November 4, Tencent introduced Hy4, the latest generation of its large language models, marking a significant step forward in capabilities compared to Hy4 preview. With this launch, Hy4 now ranks among the world’s most powerful open-weight models.

Tencent will soon release the weights of Hy4 along with the model’s technical specifications.

Hy4 significantly increases the volume of data and the scale of training during both pre-training and post-training phases, and it introduces vision capabilities for the first time, resulting in comprehensive improvements in instruction tracking, long context understanding, and long-range agentive capabilities.

Its new vision capabilities combine visual understanding, reasoning, and tool usage, enabling Hy4 to interpret dense graphics, analyze documents, and cross-reference information from multiple images. The model can also combine visual information to perform multi-step analyses and deductions, advancing from basic visual comprehension to sophisticated visual reasoning.

Building from its visual understanding, Hy4 is now compatible with Computer Use for the first time and operates via command line as well as graphical interfaces to handle a wide range of professional and everyday tasks. The Tencent Hy team has conducted specific training with specialized software such as Blender and CAD applications, as well as undertaking long-range tasks that span multiple applications, further enhancing the model’s ability to plan and execute professional workflows.

In office environments, Hy4 comprehensively enhances the user experience of WorkBuddy. In a WorkBuddy-focused evaluation, Hy4 achieved an average quality score of 83.18 and a 96.15% approval rate. In practical usage, Hy4 balances quality and efficiency in tasks such as visual design, 3D scene building, and web development.

Hy4 also provides significant improvements in professional financial analysis, supported by thousands of workspaces and over 10,000 high-quality tasks built from real financial scenarios covering fund research, stock analysis, and quantitative strategies.

In a blind evaluation focused on the financial sector, 153 out of 213 experts were from top-tier financial institutions unaffiliated with Tencent, and approximately seven out of ten had over five years of experience; in 579 real financial tasks, Hy4 ranked first among evaluated open-weight models in overall performance.

In frontend development and video game design, Hy has implemented specific optimizations in complex frontend interactions, business logic, state management, and integration between frontend and backend. Consequently, interfaces generated by the model are not only visually appealing but also functionally complete and usable. Hy has collaborated with professional video game developers from Tencent’s IEG to continuously improve data quality and evaluations, focusing on capabilities such as implementing game mechanics, game logic, state comprehension, and asset processing. The model has achieved deep adaptation to major engines like UE, Unity, and Godot and has begun exploring online multiplayer game development, showing improvements of 19.1% and 9.8% in GameDev and GameLogic evaluations compared to Hy4 preview.

Tencent believes that model development should extend beyond the lab. The Hy team collaborates closely with product teams—especially focusing on WorkBuddy—on co-design efforts within real business workflows.

Since its launch in March 2026, WorkBuddy has maintained a rapid iteration pace, with over 100 major version updates. Its token consumption has increased fiftyfold compared to its initial launch period in March, and to date, it has completed over 9 billion task requests.

WorkBuddy has become, based on user base, China’s largest office productivity AI agent. Its enterprise edition has been deployed across more than 50 sectors and serves 50% of China’s top 500 companies and 60% of the top 100.

Hy4 is now available across Tencent’s entire product ecosystem. Its API is also accessible through third-party platforms such as OpenRouter, Hermes, and OpenCode.

Tencent Hy is committed to offering cost-efficient AI services. Hy4 retains the pricing of Hy4 preview—$0.834 per million tokens for input, $2.501 per million tokens for output, and $0.042 per million tokens for cache hits—despite substantial improvements in its capabilities.

Hy4 Flash will also be launched soon: it retains Hy4’s capabilities while significantly reducing the cost per task, designed to offer the best price-performance ratio.

To gather more user feedback and continuously improve model capabilities, WorkBuddy and CodeBuddy will offer a limited free usage quota from November 4 to 15. Additionally, from today until December 31, 2026, Hy4 will be billed at 50% of its listed price on Tencent Cloud TokenHub.

Since rebuilding its AI infrastructure in February 2026, Tencent Hy has launched a major model approximately every two months: it has increased from fewer than 300 billion parameters in Hy3 to 770 billion in Hy4, with expectations that Hy5 will push even further.

The Tencent Hy team noted that while Hy4 is already among the most capable open-source models available today, there remains a considerable gap compared to leading closed-source models. Hy will continue to steadily and thoughtfully expand both pre-training and post-training efforts to bridge that gap.
