Original article: Trump sanciona la Casa Memorial Salvador Allende en Cuba en nueva ofensiva ideológica de Washington contra el “marxismo”
As part of a fresh ideological offensive against ‘Marxism’, the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has sanctioned the Salvador Allende Memorial House located in Havana, Cuba.
Under the title: ‘Imposition of sanctions on members of the Cuban regime linked to subversive Marxist networks and corrupt economic practices’, the U.S. Department of State, led by Marco Rubio, announced that ‘the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp (CIJAM) and the House of Friendship will also be sanctioned, after identifying them as alternative offices of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP).
The Salvador Allende Memorial House was established by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and has served as a gathering place for the Chilean community residing on the island.

The purpose of this venue is focused on fostering debate and promoting Chilean culture, music, and other artistic expressions in Cuba, as well as the political legacy of the former president. In fact, it houses the Monument to Salvador Allende.
Through a statement published on its website, the agency managing U.S. foreign policy indicated that both the Memorial and the other two sites ‘must be treated as sanctioned property.’
According to the document, this escalation indicates that the Trump administration seeks to dismantle what it perceives as a ‘subversive network’ funded from Havana to operate within the United States.
Washington’s Ideological Offensive Against ‘Marxism’
The core of the measure targets three leaders of the ICAP, including its president, Fernando González Llort. Washington claims that the ICAP is not merely a cultural bridge, but a political arm of the Cuban government that, under the guise of educational exchanges, has recruited and radicalized foreign sympathizers to export ‘Marxism, racial resentment, and communist violence.’
To justify the sanctions, the Department of State accuses theCuban government of trying to leverage the centenary of the birth of the revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, to reactivate its alleged influence network, bringing a new brigade of internationalists to Havana.
According to the official statement, the Trump administration will not tolerate ‘a hostile foreign power seeking to exploit our freedoms’.
The sanctions announced on Thursday, August 20, are framed within Executive Order 14404 of May 1, 2026, and expand the restrictions on the ICAP, which had previously been sanctioned as a ‘political subdivision, agency, or instrumentality of the Cuban government’ under the regime.
By designating its facilities as blocked property, any transactions by U.S. citizens with these centers are, in effect, prohibited.
In parallel, the Department of State sanctioned nine additional entities, including the Cuban Ministry of Construction.
