Unpublished Recording of Pablo Neruda Reciting at Allende Campaign Emerges Amid Preservation Funding Concerns

In addition to unveiling the audio, the Salvador Allende Foundation raised alarms about the risks to cultural preservation, stating, "the conservation of this cultural heritage is at risk because our budget for 2026 was denied." This follows the recent congressional rejection of the annual budget allocation they had received. "We are the only presidential foundation excluded from public funding," they claimed, emphasizing that, "throughout all these years of operation, we have never had any objections regarding our reports."

The Salvador Allende Foundation has shared an unprecedented audio recording of Pablo Neruda reciting a poem during an election event for the former president, although the exact date remains unspecified.

«We present an exclusive audio recording of Pablo Neruda reciting his lesser-known poem from 1964, ‘Carta para la Victoria’. This was written for Allende’s third campaign,» the foundation stated, warning that the preservation of such material is currently at risk due to a lack of funding.

The foundation expressed concern, stating, «The conservation of this cultural heritage is in jeopardy, as our budget for 2026 was denied,» referring to the recent congressional rejection of the budget line that had been allocated to the initiative.

«We are the only presidential foundation excluded from public funding,» they emphasized, maintaining that «we have adhered to all applicable regulations and have consistently met deadlines and reporting requirements. We make an ongoing contribution to the country’s historical, cultural, and democratic heritage. Thus, the decision is baffling,» they argued.

A few days ago, Marcela Ahumada, director of the Salvador Allende Foundation, spoke with Radio Usach about the denial of funding from Congress, asserting that «Throughout all these years of operation, we have never had any objections regarding our reports or programs. We have complied 100% with our annual commitments.»

«This year, when the budget was opened, the Salvador Allende Foundation and other memorial sites were initially excluded, highlighting a disconnect in the political landscape regarding the significance of memory. Memory is not merely a fleeting thought; as citizens and Chileans, we believe it is our duty to ensure that what happened 50 years ago is not repeated,» Ahumada stated.
