The National Science and Technology Awards Conference, held on July 8 in Beijing, began with all attendees singing the national anthem.
Following this, Chinese President Xi Jinping presented the National Award for Excellence in Science and Technology 2025 to two prominent scientists: academician Chen Liquan from the Institute of Physics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and academician Ben De from China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.
During the event, 258 projects and 11 experts in science and technology were honored with various awards, including the State Natural Science Award, the State Technological Invention Award, the State Progress in Science and Technology Award, and the China International Cooperation in Science and Technology Award.
The Chinese leader emphasized that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the country has made historic strides in science and technology, with innovation becoming a fundamental pillar for driving the country’s modernization.
He outlined key priorities to advance China’s scientific and technological agenda, including strengthening the national innovation system, improving coordination among major research programs, and enhancing strategic scientific capabilities.
Xi also stressed the importance of better integrating technological and industrial innovation, accelerating research application, expanding technology transfer, enhancing intellectual property protection, and improving funding for science and technology.
Furthermore, he called for the training of more elite young researchers through better coordination between education and scientific research, and for creating an environment that allows scientists to focus on innovation.
Additionally, he urged for improved governance in science, technological ethics, and safety, adding that China should participate more actively in global technological governance.
In conclusion, Xi called on society as a whole to support scientific innovation and encouraged researchers nationwide to continue contributing towards making China a global leader in science and technology.
