Pájarx Entre Púas Foundation Launches New Publishing Initiative Celebrating 10 Years of Advocacy for Human Rights in Prisons

At the packed Study Hall of the Cultural Park of Valparaíso, formerly a prison, the Pájarx Entre Púas Foundation presented its new publishing initiative and released two significant publications, marking a milestone in its decade-long journey.

The event showcased the books «From Stigma to Creation: Art and LGBTIKA+ Agency in Penitentiary Centers of Valparaíso Region,» by Incendia Volcano, and «Silhouettes to the Street: Methodology of Artistic Creation in Contexts of Confinement,» by Myr Chávez. These collective publications document and systematize the experiences the foundation has developed within the context of incarceration.

Both works explore the intersection of art, memory, body, and human rights from different perspectives. Myr Chávez, the foundation’s founder, highlighted that this launch «marks a significant milestone for our organization and for the defense of human rights in prisons, enabling us to consolidate and share methodologies and learnings developed collectively over time, demonstrating that the arts truly serve as a tool for healing and social cohesion.»

Incendia Volcano underscored the importance of documenting these experiences, stating that this endeavor is «essential for highlighting historically excluded realities and positioning art as a means of political and social transformation.»

The event also featured an artistic intervention and the screening of a video related to the book’s themes, creating a crossover of languages that enriched the audience’s experience.

The panel discussion included notable figures such as Sibila Sotomayor, one of the founders of the feminist and artistic collective LASTESIS, interdisciplinary artist and cultural producer Vicente Fernando, and Organa Feminazi, a performing artist and advocate for LGBTIQA+ rights.

With this publishing launch, the Pájarx Entre Púas Foundation aims to enhance the circulation of knowledge and experiences arising from prison contexts and post-incarceration, contributing to broader narratives around justice, culture, human rights, and social repair.

The publications will soon be available through the foundation’s various platforms.
