Fascist Control Over the Population: Lorena Pizarro Warns Security Agenda Sets Stage for Suppressing Social Protests

Deputy Lorena Pizarro (Communist Party) warned that the security agenda pushed by the government of José Antonio Kast is laying the groundwork for repressing social protests and exercising «fascist control over the population.»

Last week, the far-right president presented a package of measures that deepens the logic of territorial control, arguing the need to tackle organized crime.

The agenda includes a permanent police deployment in the 50 most critical neighborhoods in the country, extending the flagrante delicto period from 12 to 24 hours, and modifying the Constitution to safeguard state intervention. Additionally, Kast announced new criminal offenses that will penalize obstruction of public spaces through barricades or vehicles and specified that «the carabinero, police officer, gendarme, or military acting in legitimate defense will not be treated as if they were the delinquent«, a measure aimed at shielding security forces from potential accusations of excessive force.

In response to these measures, Deputy Pizarro alerted that the president is preparing to control social mobilizations through repression in light of citizens’ loss of rights.

«I believe that what is being established is an agenda that seeks to initiate a series of legislative initiatives that hardly advance in combating organized crime through a Congress completely under government control. What I see is that we are moving towards a repressive state, a police state that intends to legitimize any form of abuse,» stated the parliamentarian from district 13.

«Social rights are being questioned, they are being taken away from the people, and there will come a moment when people will open their eyes because that is a reality,» she affirmed in statements to Radio Nuevo Mundo.

Pizarro criticized the so-called Agenda against Organized Crime and Terrorism (ACOT) for not considering legal projects that follow the money, such as the lifting of bank secrecy, and for not promoting greater police intelligence or remote judges to investigate cases, «which ultimately means bringing greater social justice to the people, but instead, the opposite is happening.»

In her opinion, the ACOT has very little to do with combating organized crime and all its forms of criminal activity.

«The best evidence of what I’m saying consists of two things. The first is governing without having anything, to the point of having to assume and recognize that the previous government had a plan that was applicable and not wrong; and second, and most gravely, because it is a clear example of what I am saying, is the rejection, for example, when voting to lift bank secrecy, and it is not that they are going to check people’s accounts or RUT accounts or anything like that, and they know this, but they do it through mass media, and I want to express my discontent about what is occurring,» claimed Pizarro.

«Fascist Control Over the Population»

Many of the laws announced by José Antonio Kast as new are currently being processed in Congress, and for the deputy, more than an example of «political pyrotechnics,» the far-right leader seeks to promote a «fascist control over the population,» which she called «concerning.»

In a conversation with the cited media, she referred to the approval of the so-called Naín Retamal Law 2.0, which establishes privileged legitimate defense for military personnel and police, comparing this regulation to the amnesty decree enacted in 1978 during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

«What was voted on with the so-called Naín Retamal Law 2.0, because I want to state that I do not even agree with the first one, is ultimately to give all conditions for police and armed forces to act completely unpunished even before committing crimes, and I want to remind you that the amnesty decree enacted during the dictatorship in 1978 aimed at the same thing. If you start to go back to what the dictatorship did, this (government) is doing it today through a legitimate Congress and before it was done under a dictatorship through decrees,» she asserted.

«The actions were the same; they enacted the amnesty decree, which is the same as this privileged legitimate defense,» Pizarro warned.
