Lawyer and professor at the University of Talca, Carolina Riveros, explained that the new legislation incorporates a procedure to issue protective measures for older persons in cases of social abandonment, transitioning this issue from being merely a family misfortune or private omission to a recognized legally relevant violation of human rights, in accordance with the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older Persons, ratified by Chile.
