As the performances of ‘Camino a FIDOCS 30’ continue until the end of October for free, the festival announced this week details of its special anniversary edition.
In its highly anticipated return, FIDOCS is solidifying its role as the primary meeting point, showcase, and competition for documentary cinema in Chile and Latin America, enhancing its presence in the heart of Santiago through a walkable circuit that will include an outdoor screening at Paseo Bulnes and exhibitions at its four main venues: Cineteca Nacional de Chile, Centro Arte Alameda – Sala CEINA, Sala K / U. Mayor, and Sala de Cine, Centro de Extensión UC.
«Reaching our three decades is the result of a community that has remained, renewed, and grown. This anniversary is a celebration of this community driven by its founder Patricio Guzmán, and an invitation to continue imagining together the future of documentary filmmaking. We will continue to honor his legacy and commemorate these three decades, especially during this complex moment for culture, because we believe that documentary cinema is an essential tool for reflecting on the present and building memory and future,» comments Martín Castillo, the festival’s artistic director.
Regarding the programming, FIDOCS 30 returns with its three official competitions: the National Competition, which features premieres from Chilean filmmakers; the International Competition, which showcases films making their debut outside the commercial circuit; and the National Emerging Shorts Competition, dedicated to promoting new talents.
Additionally, as is tradition, the Young Jury will award the Best First Feature Award. This year, in celebration of its three decades, the festival will also present the Héctor Ríos Award for the first time, initiated by the Chilean Association of Cinematography (ACC), which recognizes the best national cinematography direction.
Alongside these sections, FIDOCS will present various Focus events this year, including one dedicated to restored national and international works, as well as others highlighting the careers of contemporary filmmakers.
Meanwhile, in the Special Screenings section, the latest works from renowned directors such as Ukrainian Sergei Loznitsa, French Bruno Dumont, and Argentine Mariano Llinás will premiere.
