Human Rights International Film Festival Returns to Centro Arte Alameda Featuring 3 Must-See Films

In 2026, the FICDH (Human Rights International Film Festival) makes its comeback at Centro Arte Alameda, showcasing three unmissable screenings: «Sweet as» (2022) by Jub Clerc, «Bajo las banderas, el sol» (2025) by Juanjo Pereira, and «L’arbre de l’authenticité» (2025) directed by Sammy Baloji.

Tickets, which are free or priced at 3,000 pesos, are now available on PASSLINE.

The FICDH is an international cinematic gathering held in Argentina since 1997. To commemorate the Month of Memory and Democracy, the festival will host its second edition in Chile, featuring more than 10 films from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Palestine, among others, including several national premieres.

This cultural initiative was founded by Argentina’s Multimedia Institute of Human Rights (IMD) and aims to showcase how film can enhance awareness and commitment to the defense and promotion of human rights.

With 22 editions spanning almost three decades, the festival has established itself as a leading space for social cinema in the region. This new edition in Chile will present recent audiovisual works with social impact that highlight stories related to memory and dictatorship, territory, indigenous peoples, colonialism, and migration, among other topics.

Programming

A thematic focus on territory, indigenous peoples, and colonialism will be featured this Saturday, September 26, at 16:45 (admission free), with the film «Sweet As» by Jub Clerc, which won the Crystal Bear (Generation Kplus) at the 2023 Berlinale, telling the transformative journey of an Indigenous teenager through the Pilbara region.

Then, on September 27 at 17:00, the film «Bajo las banderas, el sol» (2025) by Juanjo Pereira will take center stage. This documentary brings to light the hidden machinery of the Alfredo Stroessner dictatorship in Paraguay through previously unseen and forgotten imagery, representing one of the longest-lasting regimes in history.

The film won the FIPRESCI Prize at Berlinale 2025 and was selected to represent Paraguay at the Oscars. Admission for this screening will cost 3,000 pesos.

Finally, on Monday, September 28, at 19:00, the screening of «L’arbre de l’Authenticité» (The Tree of Authenticity) by Sammy Baloji will take place – also with a ticket price of 3,000 pesos – an award-winning film at Visions du Réel and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), exploring the legacy of Belgian colonialism in the Congolese rainforest.

Africa

Africa holds remnants of the West’s effort to control both nations and nature: one of the world’s most important tropical agriculture research centers. The National Institute of Agricultural Studies and Research of Yangambi (INERA), located along the Congo River, was a scientific development hub at its peak.

Today, it exists as a blend of jungle and ruins, raising questions about knowledge, power, and access that still linger.
