In response to the urgent need to connect educators across Chile in order to define proposals that will transform the future of education in the country, the Pueblo Docente Congress is set to take place on Saturday, October 31, starting at 10 AM at the Museum of Education (Chacabuco 365, Santiago).
Organizers emphasized that the Congress «does not emerge from academic abstraction, but from our experiences in the school environment.»
«This event represents the culmination of a rigorous discussion process carried out in various educational institutions across the country during the 2025 Teachers’ Councils. The outcomes of this collective effort were compiled into a book launched in June this year at the Museum of Education, which gathered over 100 participants and is titled The Voice of Chilean Teachers: Proposals to Address the Abandonment of Chilean Education. This document now serves as a foundation for shaping our ideas in the current pedagogical debate,» they explained.
For this upcoming meeting, discussions will be centered around three main themes:
- The Teacher Training Market: A critical analysis of the precariousness and commercialization in preparing new educators.
- Working Conditions for Teachers: Diagnosis and proposals addressing labor abandonment, lack of safeguards in classrooms, and the deterioration of school and professional coexistence.
- Demands of the Teaching Community: Defining a strategic agenda of battles to secure the dignity of our profession and the transformative role of teachers.
«We know that the transformation of Chilean education will not come from external diagnoses or policies imposed without classroom participation. It requires rigorous reflection, commitment, and the convergence of classroom teachers, researchers, and academics,» stated the organization behind the event.
