Original article: Squella lo quiere vender todo: Ahora propuso poner en venta Correos de Chile
In a significant push for privatization, Arturo Squella, president of the Republican Party and senator, has called for the government to consider selling Correos de Chile, following his earlier suggestion to privatize Codelco.
During an interview with CNN Chile, Squella noted, without providing extensive details, that «there is a consensus that most public companies in Chile are not performing well.»
He further elaborated in a conversation with La Tercera, stating, «It is time to seriously evaluate the decision to advance the sale of public companies that are underperforming or that, in state hands, are unable to compete effectively.»
Squella cited TVN and Correos de Chile as examples, arguing that Correos, being a state entity, is destined to «wither away simply because its operations lack purpose.»
«Correos de Chile employs many long-serving individuals and played a crucial role during an important period in Chile’s history, and it could successfully adapt to modern demands if it were not a state-owned company,» argued the Republican legislator.
«To preserve the company, ensure continuity for its workers, and support its long-term viability, I firmly believe that selling it makes much more sense. I see no reason to retain any stake in such a company,» Squella emphasized.
