As part of the 2026 Season by the Theater Department of the University of Chile, «The Mission: A Memory of a Revolution» by Heiner Müller will be showcased at the Agustín Siré Theater, directed by academic Cristian Keim. Performances are scheduled from August 7 to 22 at 7:30 PM, located at Morandé 750.

Written by one of the most significant playwrights of East Germany, this piece is inspired by the story of the outbreak and success of the only successful slave revolution in history: the Haitian Revolution.

Following this event, the rebels shift their fight to English-held Jamaica, where they face a series of complex decisions arising from their growing success and a life filled with power and wealth, which ultimately puts their proposed model into crisis.

«This play from the late 1970s remains highly relevant today, especially considering the current context. It was written amid the disarmament of the Marxist model during the Cold War, and from this backdrop, the author provides profound reflection,» Keim emphasizes.

According to the director, «this text resonates with contemporary Chile regarding the search for meaning, something that seems to have been lost in our time.»

«It discusses a world in transformation and the need to redirect our dreams toward contexts that allow their realization; but it also emphasizes that certain actions can modify contexts and create spaces for those utopias to emerge,» he added.

«The Mission: A Memory of a Revolution» features assistant direction by Catalina Rozas, integral design by Mariana Segovia Ruiz, and sound arrangements by Hans Kracht.

The cast includes Sachel Armijo Landskron, Simón Bascuñán Miranda, Djure Gasic, Felipe Huichicoy Sáez, Antonia Krug, Paula López Christensen, Luz Martínez Viola, Claudio Matus Rozas, Camila Reyes Vigh, Antonia Sepúlveda Tapia, Vicente Soto Contreras, and Ginno Vicencio Fuentes.

«I have tried to work with this text several times before, but I never managed to do it in full. I find it to be one of the most beautiful texts I have had the chance to read, and here we have the opportunity to mount it with young actors and designers finishing their degrees, who have perfectly fulfilled what I aim for in this work,» noted the production director.
