Santiago’s ICTUS Theatre Presents Indie Pop and Cueca Brava Concerts This August

Continuing its mission to bring music to the Sala la Comedia, Teatro ICTUS has announced two exciting new dates in its intimate concert series, aimed at enhancing artistic practices within the venue and highlighting the connections between music and theater.

«This discipline not only opens us to new audiences but also connects us with new artists who enrich our artistic endeavors,» stated ICTUS representatives when unveiling their musical lineup for August.

Taking the stage first will be Los Nogalinos, a band formed in the neighborhood of “Los Nogales” in Estación Central, specializing in Canto Chilenero as the foundation of their work.

«With tales of popular life and stories from Santiago’s marginalized neighborhoods, this band delivers a cuequera centrina and brava style, nurturing the urban and coastal folklore of our country through song, prose, and verse,» the theater explained.

«In addition to this tradition, you will hear the poetic nature of their lyrics, which seek to capture the diverse stories, traditions, and heritage that have shaped our history,» they added.

At this event, the band will also launch their upcoming album titled «Patrimonia,» which primarily focuses on urban narratives, capturing the railway, architectural, and traditional epic demonstrated in the songs, instruments, and poetry featured in the album’s cuecas.

The band’s instrumentation is crucial for this venture. Instruments like the piano—a key element in cueca—accordion, guitar, and double bass play an essential role in preserving the tradition, all supported by the intrinsic rhythm of the Chilean pandero and its distinctive interpretation style.

For this launch, the band will be joined by musician and actor Daniel Muñoz along with the Dúo Mena – Corral, featuring accordionists and singers Dominga Corral and Claudia Mena. Other musicians include Hernán Rojas, Cristian Comigual, Arturo Pastrian, Felipe Leyton, and Carlos Carrasco.

Simón Campusano

Musician, composer, performer, and founder of the indie rock band Los Niños del Cerro, Simón Campusano will present his indie pop album «Brillo» with a full band, marking the beginning of his solo career and celebrating one of the most notable albums in Chile’s indie scene over the past decade.

This concert will focus on a special interpretation of «Brillo,» which constitutes the first album of his solo career and represents a significant milestone in contemporary Chilean popular music.

The concert will feature live performances of the compositions from this album, crafted with a stage proposal specifically designed for this occasion, featuring arrangements and interpretations in a band format.

The show will be exclusively performed by national artists and will involve live renditions of original repertoire, created with strictly artistic and cultural goals. Simón Campusano invites everyone to reconnect with an album that has significantly impacted recent Chilean music during this intimate and special night where «Brillo» will resonate in all its dimensions.
