Chile is currently experiencing one of the most intense storms, leaving an unprecedented amount of rain in a short period. The frontal system of the past weeks has caused significant damage in towns and cities from Atacama to Coquimbo, heavily impacting the Biobío region. Many families are suffering, and artisanal fishing is no exception: boats have been damaged, fishing gear lost, forecasts predict weeks without being able to go out to sea, and the beaches are damaged due to rising sea levels and swells.

The storms impacting the south raise a key question for urban futures: persist with concrete or protect the wetlands that quietly uphold the water security of our cities.

On the anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation, Moscow and Beijing highlighted the evolution of their bilateral relations, strategic cooperation, and their vision for the international landscape, also mentioning the role of Latin America and ties with Chile.

A persistent narrative is spreading from the north, fueled by lobbying and media, portraying China as a security threat to Chile, while obscuring the truth about collaboration and partnerships that could enhance the nation's sovereignty and technological independence.

Statistics demonstrate that this discussion goes beyond individual perception. The II National Survey on Time Use (ENUT 2023) from the National Institute of Statistics indicated that, in Chile, women spend an average of 2 hours and 5 minutes more per day than men on unpaid labor. When they also engage in the labor market, their overall workload exceeds 10.5 hours daily, significantly greater than that of men.

According to Animal Interseccional, soil degradation cannot be analyzed in isolation, as it is deeply linked to the food production and consumption model that prevails in Latin America and around the world.

"The real public policy error does not lie in protecting state infrastructure. It consists of having reduced a strategic decision on investment, tourism, and international reputation to a problem of grass maintenance." Column by Dana Davis.

Despite the magnitude of the tragedy, significant diplomatic advances have been made. The growing recognition of the State of Palestine by numerous countries reaffirms the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and strengthens the viability of the two-state solution. Along with the findings of the United Nations investigative mechanisms, these developments highlight that the status quo is unsustainable.
