These words aim to be a conjuration, a prayer to accompany Mónica Rojas Villavicencio in her passage to the beyond, a kind of four-handed supplication meant to resonate softly yet clearly, like a heartbeat in the deep forest, like a ceremonial kultrún in the concrete jungle.

"Víctor Jara y los siete estados. Una obra inconclusa" is the title of the book that Félix Cárdenas, director of the Orquesta Andina PUCV, will present in Santiago and Valparaíso. This research reconstructs the history of the ballet "Los siete estados" by choreographer Patricio Bunster, whose music was created by Jara and composer Celso Garrido-Lecca. Cárdenas uncovered unreleased recordings of Jara composed for this show in Peru, which never premiered due to the bombing of La Moneda and the murder of the Chilean musician.

Featuring a straightforward, almost linear structure—with few and simple embellishments, such as temporal jumps—the stories of The Return of 'Torito' Callulaf and Other Provincial Tales evoke tales that have always existed by the fire and its brews, serving as a remembrance of a community that refuses to disintegrate.

Narrative, illustration, poetry, research, theater, music, heritage, children's and young adult literature, comics, among other genres and themes, will be present to welcome a wide diversity of reading tastes. Guests such as Cynthia Rimsky, 2026 National Literature Prize winner; writer Pablo Katchadjian, and editors Marco Cassini, Maxi Papandrea, and Edgar Blanco will be featured at this anniversary edition of the Spring of Books.

The exhibition features visual artist Viviana Silva Flores, whose extensive research work in the Chiloé Archipelago offers a sensitive and human perspective on the impacts of the industry on the territory, communities, and individuals. The show opens on October 3 at the Cultural Park of Valparaíso (former jail) and will remain open to the public, free of charge, until November 8, 2026.
