China’s embassy in Buenos Aires issued a sharp statement accusing U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of "confrontational, interventionist" rhetoric after he said Washington’s financial rescue for President Javier Milei was meant to "get China out of Argentina" and leverage the country’s natural resources.

Scott Bessent said Argentina's President Javier Milei will visit the Oval Office next Tuesday and is committed to driving China out of Argentina, calling him a strong U.S. ally.

"Basic macroeconomics shows that slashing fiscal spending by $6 billion in a low-interest-rate Chile would trigger a recession," said former Finance Minister Nicolás Eyzaguirre, who served under Presidents Ricardo Lagos and Michelle Bachelet.
