Six years after the announcement of the Decarbonization Plan, the Coalition, which comprises organizations from Chile’s sacrifice zones, has highlighted that despite the closure of 11 coal-fired power plants between 2019 and 2024, the energy transition is losing social legitimacy. The absence of remediation plans, weak citizen engagement, and the chaotic implementation of renewable energies, which are now generating new socio-environmental conflicts, threaten to reproduce the same injustices under a new energy model.
