Deputy Luis Cuello stated, "The remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Chile, Brandon Judd, regarding the Uber Law represent interference, an illegitimate intrusion that we cannot accept."

Following the verdict from the Temuco Oral Criminal Court that confirms the judicial setup by Carabineros de Chile in the Huracán Case, on January 12, the defense for one of the six convicted, former Captain Leonardo Osses, requested a reduction of the sentence based on the case of the murder of Matías Catrileo committed by former Corporal Walter Ramírez, a case currently under review by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights for denial of justice.

"This law, supported and enacted by Gabriel Boric's government in record time, preventing any resources from being filed to halt its progress, has transformed into a cursed law that only generates impunity. The state today has failed not only Gustavo but the entire country," stated the legislator, who expressed her support and solidarity with Gustavo Gatica.

Lawmakers expressed outrage over a recent ruling that exonerated Claudio Crespo, a former Carabinero, despite clear evidence of his responsibility in the blindness of Gustavo Gatica during protests, calling for accountability from those who supported the Naín Retamal Law.

Andrea Zondek, president of Fundación Tacal, stated that "there is no reason for people with disabilities to continue to be as poor as they were two years ago while the rest of the country is making progress."

Rodrigo Bustos, director of Amnesty International in Chile, stated that the right to peaceful protest is in worse conditions today than in 2019: "There was no law regulating the use of force, no deep structural reform of the Carabineros, and yet the Naín Retamal law was approved, which has now been used to grant a cloak of impunity to the individual deemed responsible by the courts for blinding Gustavo Gatica," affirmed Bustos.

According to the ruling by the 4th Oral Criminal Court of Santiago, Crespo's actions that resulted in the injuries causing Gatica's double eye mutilation "are protected by law," sparking a wave of criticism.

The deputy from the Maule region highlighted this as an environmental crisis with historical roots, the most severe expression of which compelled health authorities to declare a health emergency. "This is not a new problem. It is perhaps the most severe manifestation recorded so far at Lake Vichuquén," he stated.

The verdict in the oral trial against former Carabineros Lieutenant Colonel Claudio Crespo, accused of shooting and causing the double ocular mutilation of then-student and now-elected deputy Gustavo Gatica, will be revealed on Tuesday, January 13. The prosecution has already indicated that it will seek 12 years in prison for the former officer.
